How MotoTigo collects, uses and protects your personal data in the mobile app and on this site.

Last updated: July 8, 2026

At a glance

MotoTigo is a mobile travel journal for motorcyclists and drivers: GPS route recording, voice notes turned into text, photos, the “Maya” voice assistant and an SOS emergency feature. For these features to work, we process some of your personal data — including sensitive data such as precise location.

This policy explains what data we collect, for what purpose and on what legal basis, who we share it with, and what rights you have. It covers the MotoTigo mobile app (Android and iOS) and this website.

Data controller

The controller of your personal data is MLG Trade sp. z o.o. sp. k., with its registered office at ul. Nagietkowa 58, 81-589 Gdynia, Poland (“we”, “us”, “MotoTigo”).

The app is published under the name “MotoTigo” (package identifier com.mlg.freebiker).

For any privacy or data-protection matter, contact us at: rider1@mototigo.com.

What data we collect

The scope of data we process depends on the features you use:

  • Account data — your email address and, when you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and profile picture those services share; plus profile settings (language, theme, units, selected plan).
  • Location and GPS tracks — the device's precise location used to record your route, navigate and plan routes. If you enable background mode for SOS or the rain alarm, the app periodically (about every 15 minutes) reads your position even when running in the background — with a persistent notification informing you.
  • Voice notes — when you dictate a note or command, the recording is turned into text by the operating system's built-in speech recognition (Google or Apple). We store the resulting text in the app.
  • Photos and videos — media you add to your travel journal. By default stored locally on your device; on paid plans you can back them up to the cloud. Files may contain metadata (e.g. date and EXIF coordinates).
  • Interactions with the “Maya” assistant — the content of the commands and questions you send to the voice assistant.
  • SOS feature — when you send an alert, we share your location, a description of the situation and your name and email with other nearby users. When you use SOS as a potential rescuer, your current position is periodically stored so you can be located.
  • Rain alarm — if you enable this feature (available on the Gold plan), your position is periodically sent to our server, including when the app is closed, so we can check the precipitation forecast at your location and send you a push notification before it starts raining.
  • Search history — places you search for in the app (name, coordinates, timestamp).
  • Technical data — information needed to operate the services (e.g. IP address when loading maps and routes, push notification tokens).

Purposes and legal bases

We process your data for the following purposes and on the following bases (Art. 6 GDPR):

  • Providing the service — running your account, recording and displaying trips, navigation, the journal. Basis: necessity to perform a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)).
  • Consent-based features — background location, recording and transcribing voice, the “Maya” assistant, sharing location via SOS and the rain alarm. Basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw at any time, including in your device settings.
  • Security and abuse prevention — keeping the service stable and secure and limiting abuse (e.g. rate limits). Basis: our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)).

Data sharing and third parties

We use trusted providers that process data on our behalf or as independent controllers. We do not sell your personal data. Depending on the features you use, recipients may include:

  • Google Firebase — authentication, database, file storage and server functions.
  • The operating system's speech recognition (Google on Android, Apple on iOS) — transcribing voice notes in online mode.
  • Google Gemini (Generative Language API) — processing the queries you send to the “Maya” assistant; the feature uses Google Search to enrich answers.
  • Map, routing and place providers — MapTiler, OpenStreetMap, Google (Places, Routes), Stadia Maps, Geoapify, GraphHopper — displaying maps, planning routes and searching for places.
  • OpenWeather — weather data for your location.
  • Supabase, Brevo and Expo — operating the SOS feature and the rain alarm (storing positions, finding nearby users, email and push notifications).
  • Other users — within the SOS feature, your alert (location, description, name and email) is visible to other users within the chosen radius.

Transfers outside the EEA

Some of our providers (e.g. Google) may process data outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. In such cases, transfers are based on appropriate safeguards, such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, adequacy decisions or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

Retention and deletion

We keep your data for as long as you have an account or as long as it is necessary to provide the service and fulfil the purposes described in this policy.

You can delete individual content (trips, notes, photos) at any time and request deletion of your account together with the associated data. We may retain some data where required by law or by our legitimate interests (e.g. security).

Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect data, including encryption in transit and at rest. Access to your content in the database and file storage is restricted by owner-based rules — as a rule, only you can access it.

Please note, however, that no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access your data and obtain a copy of it,
  • rectify inaccurate data,
  • erase your data (the “right to be forgotten”),
  • restrict processing,
  • data portability,
  • object to processing,
  • withdraw consent at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing).

Exercising rights and complaints

To exercise the rights above, write to us at rider1@mototigo.com.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Poland this is the President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO); in Germany, the competent state data protection authority; in Spain, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD). You may complain to the authority of your place of residence.

Device permissions

The app requests the following system permissions — you can revoke each one at any time in your device settings (revoking some may disable related features):

  • Location (foreground and background) — route recording, navigation, the SOS feature and the rain alarm.
  • Microphone and speech recognition — voice notes and commands.
  • Camera and gallery — adding photos and videos to the journal.
  • Notifications — including nearby SOS alerts.
  • Bluetooth — supporting intercom/headset audio.

Children's data

MotoTigo is intended for adults (18 years and older). We do not direct the service to children and do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have received such a person's data, contact us and we will delete it.

Automated decision-making

We do not make decisions about you based solely on automated processing that would produce legal effects or similarly significantly affect you.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will announce significant changes in the app or on this page by updating the date above. Continued use of the service after the changes take effect means you accept them.
